About Us

Mission & History

At Sans Souci, the primary goal has always been to expertly teach the sport of english horseback riding in a relaxed, fun and friendly atmosphere. Founded in 1970, the centre has long enjoyed a respected reputation as the most popular certified horseback riding camp in Quebec. The camp emphasizes fun and adventure, as well as, responsibility and cooperation. This makes a stay at Sans Souci one of the most exciting, healthy, and character-building experiences a child can have.

Carolyn & Don Sedgwick are the owners and directors of Sans Souci Riding Centre. They are certified Equestrian Canada coaches and have been actively involved with the equestrian and summer camp industries for over 40 years. Carolyn mentors riding instructors and coaches students who wish to pass their horseback rider level exams. Don is a competitive 3-phase event rider, horse trainer and stable manager. Carolyn & Don believe that an association with horses and the experience of a summer camp can greatly enrich a child’s life and help them become confident, compassionate, responsible and self-reliant young people.

Camp Director

Marta Sawchyn has been working with us for over the past 10 years in the camp counsellor/animator program. She attended the camp as a young child and continued until she reached the age to become a camp counsellor. She has many years of experience with children both in summer camps and working during the year as a science and math teacher at the elementary and high school levels. She has a passion for nature and passing on her knowledge to both the campers and the staff. Her commitment to safety and the well-being of both the campers and the staff, her happy and trustworthy nature and her love of camp life contributes greatly to ensuring a fun and healthy learning experience for both the staff and campers under her management and care. We are extremely happy to have Marta working for us as a director for the camp.
